Notice of Race

  September 11-12, 2010

1 ORGANIZING AUTHORITY
The Organizing Authority (OA) will be the Chicago Match Race Center, 540 W. Madison Chicago IL 60661

2 VENUE
The venue will be Chicago Illinois and Lake Michigan in the vicinity of the Chicago Match Race Center.

3 EVENT GRADING
The event is an ISAF Grade 3 event. This grading is subject to review by the ISAF and may be re- graded when there is clear reason to do so.

4 PROVISIONAL PROGRAM
4.1
(a) Race office opens September 10, 2010 at 1500 until 1800 hrs.
(b) Registration and crew weighing will be September 10, 1500 hrs until 1800 hrs unless extended by OA.
(c) Practice will be September 10, 2010, 1200 hrs until 1500 hrs unless extended by OA.
(d) First briefing will be September 11, 2010, 0800 hrs.
(e) First meeting with the umpires will be immediately following the initial briefing.

(f) Racing days will be September 11-12, 2010
(g) Time of the first race each day will be 1000 hrs.
(h) No warning signal will be made after 1500 hrs on September 12, 2010


4.2 Unless excused by the OA, attendance at the following is mandatory:
(a) Initial briefing for skippers and crew.
(b) Daily briefing, for skippers and crew.
(c) Prize giving for top 3 skippers and crew.


5 ELIGIBILITY
(a) As many as eight (8) skippers may compete. Only skippers invited by the OA will be eligible to enter this event. All skippers shall be members of their National Authority.

(b) The registered skipper shall helm the boat at all times while racing, except in an emergency.
(c) To remain eligible a skipper shall confirm acceptance of invitation in writing (fax or e-mail is acceptable) to be received by date specified on the letter of invitation.
(d) A non-refundable entry fee shall accompany the acceptance of invitation for it to be valid.
(e) All competitors shall meet the eligibility requirements of ISAF Regulation 19.
(f) All invited skippers shall obtain an ISAF Sailor ID by registering online at www.sailing.org/isafsailor. Skippers shall inform the OA of their Sailor ID at registration.


6 ENTRIES
6.1 The skipper shall be entered on completion of registration, crew weighing, and the payment of the entry fee and damage deposit. All payments shall be made by check in $(US).

6.2 Entry Fee
A non-refundable entry fee of $575.00 (US) shall be paid prior to registration.

6.3 Insurance
(a) All skipper/owners are required to have adequate third party insurance. A minimum of $300,000.00 (US) Water Liability Insurance is required. Proof of insurance shall be provided at registration.


7 RULES

(a) The event will be governed by the rules as defined in the RRS 2009-2012, including Appendix C.

(b) Video, data and/or photographs taken from any source shall not be used as evidence at protest hearing..

(c) If there is a conflict between the NOR and the Sailing Instructions, it will be resolved in favor of the sailing instructions. This changes RRS 63.7

8 Boats and Sails

(a) The event will be sailed in J-105 type boats.

9 Crew (including skipper )

(a) When a registered skipper is unable to continue in the event the OA may authorize a substitute helmsman from the original crew.

(b) When a registered crew member is unable to continue in the event the OA may authorize a substitute, a temporary substitute or other adjustment.

(c) The total weight of the crew, including the skipper, dressed in at least shorts and shirts shall not exceed 474 kgs, determined at the time of registration or such time required by the RC.

(d) All crew must be amateurs (ISAF Group 1).

10 EVENT FORMAT
(a) The event will consist of the following stages:
Stage 1: Double Round Robin
Stage 2: Semi-Final/Final Round
(b) The OA may change the format, terminate or eliminate any stage.


11 COURSE

(a) The course will be windward/leeward with starboard roundings, finishing downwind.


12 ADVERTISING
(a) As boats are supplied by the competitors
(b) ISAF regulation 20.3 will apply and advertising supplied by the OA is to be displayed on the bow and the mainsail.
(c) Boats shall not be permitted the right to protest for breaches of any rules regarding advertising (amends RRS 60.1).


13 PRIZES
(a) Prizes will be awarded to first, second and third places.


14 MEDIA, IMAGES AND SOUND
(a) The OA may require television personnel and equipment (or dummies) to be carried on board while racing and may require competitors to be available for interviews.
(b) The OA shall have the right to use any images and sound recorded during the event free of any charge.

15 COACH BOATS
Coach boats shall be registered with the OA

17 DISCLAIMER
(a) All those taking part in this event do so at their own risk.

(b) Specific attention is drawn to RRS Fundamental Rule 4, which states: “The responsibility for a boat’s decision to participate in a race or to continue racing is hers alone”.
(c) The OA, its associates and appointees accept no responsibility for any loss, damage, injury, or inconvenience incurred, howsoever caused.


18 INVITATIONS

(a) Entries will only be accepted from invited skippers.
(b) If you wish to be invited please register your request for an invitation as soon as possible with the OA by completing the attached form.
(c) Requests for an invitation will not be accepted after Sept 1, 2010.
